Arizona Medicare Part D Plans

Comparing Arizona Medicare Part D plansCompare Arizona Part D

There are two ways to get your Part D coverage. You can enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan that includes drug coverage or you can enroll in a stand-alone Part D plan. Often enrolling in a Medicare Advantage plan gives you less opportunity to compare Part D plans. After all, you must accept the drug coverage as part of the plan you choose and most Advantage plans don’t offer enhanced Part D formularies.

The following is a list of 30 stand-alone Part D plans available in Arizona. Whether you stick with original Medicare or purchase a Medigap policy you should enroll in a Part D plan. Not enrolling when you are first eligible can mean penalties when you do enroll in the future.

The following list is designed to give you a high level view of available Arizona Part D plans. In addition to premium, you can compare; deductibles, type of plan (basic or enhanced), whether there is coverage in the gap and how the plan is rated at medicare.gov. Use this list as a starting point to do additional in-depth research to choose the plan which is most suitable.

The Part D formulary – one piece of information that really counts

Choosing a Part D plan based on any one of the above criteria alone is foolish. But that’s what thousands of people do each year when they choose a Plan based on the monthly premium alone.

The best plan is the one which is the most affordable and will cover all of your required medications. The only way to determine if a plan will cover your medications is to use a Drug Look Up tool or review a plan formulary. Many people prefer to review the plan’s formulary. Not only can you see if your drugs are included but you can see which tier they are placed in as well. A drug is often placed in different tiers by different companies. Choosing not to pay attention could cost you dearly in extra copays or coinsurance.

Once you narrow your list of plans, you can drill down into plan formularies, pharmacy networks and mail order benefits. With 30 Part D plans available in Arizon for 2012 you should find one that meets your needs.
