There are 33 Part D plans available in Idaho for 2012. There are two types of Part D plans available. You can choose a plan with either a basic or enhanced formulary. A plan’s formulary is the list of medications that are covered by the plan.

If you are required to take common or generic drugs you may be able to save some money by choosing a plan with a basic formulary. These plans will generally include the most common drugs for people on Medicare.

If you are suffering from a chronic illness or require less common medications you may need to explore your options from the list of plans with enhanced formularies.

The following list includes all stand-alone Part D plans available in Idaho for 2012. You can also receive your medicare drug coverage by enrolling in a Medicare Advantage plan if one is available. Advantage plans are offered on a County-by-County basis.

To get a complete picture of each plan and how well it will work for you, it is necessary to visit the plan’s website and dig a little deeper. By reviewing the above list and recognizing the vast differences in things like monthly premium and star rating, I’m sure you can guess that plan formularies might vary as well.

Once you have narrowed down your list based on factors that are important to you such as extra gap coverage or Medicare star rating you should review the plan’s formulary. Not only will you learn which of your medications are covered but you can learn about each drug’s tier placement as well. Tier placement will determine your share of the cost.

If you have questions about which plan to choose, you can also contact your local Area Council on Aging or SHIP office. Often times an insurance broker who represents multiple companies woll have additional insight about customer service and related matters. With the resources available you should have no problem finding an Idaho Medicare Part D plan that suits your needs.
