Part D and Medicare Advantage

The above list details the 31 stand-alone Part D plans available in Kansas. If you choose to keep only original Medicare or purchase a Medigap policy to supplement original Medicare you should choose on of the plans listed above.

But if you are interested in enrolling in a Medicare Advantage plan, you may find a plan that includes Part D coverage. You will more than likely have more options for plans with Medicare drug coverage than not. You cannot enroll in an HMO, PPO or HMO-POS plan without coverage and purchase a stand-alone plan. If you enroll in a PFFS Medicare advantage plan without Part D coverage, you can purchase a stand-alone plan.

If you have decided on a Medicare Advantage plan you should give due diligence to the Part D coverage just as if you were enrolling in a stand-alone plan. Don’t fall for a $0 premium or low premium Advantage plan and neglect to research the Part D formulary.

Whether you choose a stand-alone Part D plan or enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan with prescription coverage you should be able to find a plan that suits your needs and budget.
