Few things related to your health are more important that choosing the right Medicare Part D plan. But given the fact that there are 31 Medicare Part D plans available in Kentucky for 2012 it’s not always easy to be certain that you are choosing the right plan.

All Part D plans include different features. It’s obvious that monthly premiums vary widely but other features are not as evident. Everything from which drugs are covered to which tier individual drugs are placed in can have a large bearing on your potential out-of-pocket costs.

Making a side-by-side comparison of Part D plans is easy with the following list. Compare premiums, deductibles, plan type (basic or enhanced), gap coverage and Medicare Star ratings. The first step is narrowing your list prior to digging deeper into plan formularies, mail order options, pharmacy networks and any ancillary benefits available.

The list below includes only stand-alone Part D drug plans. Many Medicare Advantage plans include Part D prescription drug coverage as well. If you are choosing to receive your health benefits from original Medicare or a Medigap policy, choose a plan from the list below.
